To succeed you need to
monitor your performance: Daily

“Performance monitored equals success gained”, quoting a business man, Thomas S. Monson; this is the key to improving, reaching your goals and having proof. Would you go to a baseball game if no one kept score? Amazingly many people fail to monitor their daily business performance. Keeping score becomes an exciting game, as Chuck Coonradt demonstrates in his book, “The Game of Work”.

See the sales performance monitoring spreadsheet that we use at Champions in the Workplace, included with this article. Prior to using this monitoring system I used a spreadsheet of my own. The longer I used it the more demotivated I became! Why? Because when my sales closing ratio improved the graph trended down. Downward trends are not motivating. Lesson: make sure you select meaningful and motivating criteria to measure. It may take time to hone this charting tool, but once refined it will become your best silent partner. Another tip, don’t keep changing the spreadsheet. Keep it as is for one year; this will give you time to see trends.

Since using the spreadsheet as illustrated I doubled my sales goal compared with last year. So motivated and focused I have already achieved 75% of my goal half way into the new sales year. We are in a recession. This illustrates the power of focus which comes through measuring and monitoring. The key is keeping it simple and motivational.
